The Bi-Centennial Quilt Project 2016!
Harrison County Arts! would like to announce our Bi-Centennial Quilt Project. The goal of the project is to celebrate the past and document today's Harrison county for future historians. The 117" x 117" quilt will consist of a hand painted center piece by artist Jean Schettler and 120 various sized squares that will be sold to the public to commemorate past and present memories of Harrison County.
Purchasers may design their quilt blocks, which will then be hand embroidered and assembled by a team of volunteers under the guidance of Rita Koerber and Donna Thomas. (Artistic assistance for the block design will be available at the Artisan Center.) for example, quilt blocks could be designed commemorating Harrison County events such as Lanesville Heritage Festival or New Amsterdam Remembrance Days, or individuals might choose to portray their business, their church, a treasured family farm or homestead.
Proceeds from the quilt block sales will help secure the future of the Artisan Center, with the completed project being donated to the Harrison County Historical Society during the Bi-Centennial celebration in 2016.
